Windtricity by the Numbers

Join Windtricity To Avoid Rising Fuel Costs
wind turbines

For just a few extra pennies a day, you can support clean, renewable, wind-generated electricity from CPS Energy and avoid rising fuel prices.

You can enroll at any level from 10 to 100 percent of your monthly bill. For example, if you're interested in paying for half of the energy through Windtricity, you'll lock half of your fuel price at 3.37 cents per kWh and the other half will remain at the traditional price. Yes, you’ll pay a little more, but you’re doing something tangible to support renewable energy.

Calculate the Cost of Windtricity for You
Let’s say the Brees family is interested in a 20 percent enrollment level for Windtricity. They use about 1,200 kWh of electricity each month. (See the Account Comparison Summary on your bill to find your average.) At 3.37 cents per kWh, the Brees’ monthly charge for Windtricity is calculated at $8.08 per month. See our calculation:

.20 (20 percent) X 1200 kWh X 3.37 cents = $8.08

While $8.08 will be added to the Brees’ monthly bill, their monthly fuel adjustment charge (the part of every bill that varies with fuel prices) will be locked by their Windtricity participation level of 20 percent.

The fuel adjustment charge for the Brees’ 1200 kWh home is $16.92. However, that charge is reduced by 20 percent or $3.38. Therefore, the Brees family can subtract $3.38 from their Windtricity charge of $8.08, making their additional monthly cost for Windtricity just $4.70! See our calculation:

                                                  $16.92 X .20 (20 percent) = $3.38
                                                             $8.08 - $3.38 = $4.70
