Our Environment

our environment

We are fortunate to live and work in one of the most scenic areas of the nation, from the foothills of the Hill Country to the pastures of southern Bexar County. While CPS Energy exists to provide affordable, reliable energy to San Antonio, Bexar County and to portions of seven neighboring counties, we are also responsible for protecting the environment that we all call home.

To address pollution concerns, CPS Energy is reducing air emissions and maintaining air quality by investing more than three-quarters of a billion dollars in state-of-the-art emissions-control equipment for new and existing power plants.  To preserve our drinking water, we use recycled water from Braunig and Calaveras Lakes to cool our plants. To protect wildlife species unique to our region, we take measures to avoid disrupting their habitat. We also view energy efficiency as our “fifth fuel” and have committed $96 million to a variety of residential and commercial incentives in order to reduce electrical demand, save our customers money and decrease greenhouse gas emissions.

While our efforts far exceed the requirements of the Environmental Protection Agency or the Texas Commission for Environmental Quality, we continue to make environmental commitments a priority in our business, because we know it’s the right thing to do for our community, our families and our future.
