The Friday, Nov. 14, deadline is fast approaching for applicants who wish to be considered for filling an upcoming vacancy on the CPS Energy Board of Trustees.
CPS Energy is seeking candidates to succeed Alvaro Sanchez Jr., who represents the southwest quadrant of the utility’s service territory. He will leave his Trustee position Jan. 31, 2009, after serving a maximum two five-year terms.
The southwest quadrant covers an area south of Ingram and Culebra roads and east to IH 35 and U. S. 281, including most of San Antonio City Council Districts 4, 5 and 6. The new Trustee’s five-year term will begin Feb.1, 2009.
The five-member CPS Energy Board of Trustees is comprised of a representative from each quadrant of the CPS Energy service territory (northeast, northwest, southeast and southwest) as well as the mayor of the City of San Antonio.
“The Board not only sets policy but also oversees the operation of our company,” said Milton Lee, CPS Energy general manager and CEO. “The Trustees rely on their business experience and community insight to make important decisions that affect our customers and our energy future.”
The Board meets regularly, and Trustees may expect to serve approximately 10 to 20 hours per month. With the exception of the mayor, Trustees receive an annual stipend of $2,000, serve for a term of five years and may be eligible to serve an additional five-year term.
Applicants must be United States citizens as well as permanent residents of Bexar County, and they must reside within the CPS Energy quadrant they wish to represent. Completed applications should be mailed to: CPS Energy, Attn: Board of Trustees, P.O. Box 1771, Mail Drop 101014, San Antonio, Texas 78296-1771.
All applications received will be forwarded to the CPS Energy Board of Trustees for review. Interviews will be scheduled with individuals selected by a Board committee for further consideration. A nominee to fill the southwest quadrant vacancy will be selected by the CPS Energy Board, and the nominee will be submitted to the San Antonio City Council for confirmation or rejection.
A quadrant map as well as application forms and a description of Trustee qualifications may be obtained by calling 353-2602 or by visiting cpsenergy.com.
